Four new CGH residences in the Alps

CGH (Compagnie de Gestion Hôtelière) is a subsidiary of the MGM group and has just opened up residences in Alpe d’Huez, Peisey-Vallandry, Tignes and Val Cenis. It currently owns 20 hotel-residences and two hotels in the Alps. Over the next year, it will open another three in Châtel, Flaine and La Rosière.

The MGM group was established in 1963, becoming one of the best known mountain property developers, and in 2005 it added a hotel subsidiary to its portfolio. CGH (Compagnie de Gestion Hôtelière) is based at Metz-Tessy, on the outskirts of Annecy, just like its parent company. It specialises in the management and promotion of MGM-built tourist residences and hotels, of which there are 22, located in the Haute-Savoie, Savoie Isère and Hautes-Alpes. Of these, 19 boast spa centres under the Spas d’Altitude Ô des Cimes brand name.

“We have two hotels in Tignes – the Suites du Nevada with 25 suites and the Écrin du Val Claret which has 56 rooms”, notes Jean-François Mercier, CGH’s sales director. “As well as those two hotels, we also have residences that go from the smallest 30-apartment facility in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville to the largest one in Le Grand-Bornard, which boasts 150 apartments. According to MGM president David Giraud, who took over from his father Maurice in 2003, the creation of CGH was aimed at providing a complementary business to its property development activity”.

With the exception of the Écrin du Val Claret, which has two seminar rooms for up to 100 people and the Suites du Nevada, where there are a number of rooms which can host executive seminars for up to 15 people, none of the residences have a meeting room. “We’re mainly targeting the incentive and team-building market”, details Jean-François Mercier. “Whenever a company contacts us for a seminar, we offer them a proposal for the accommodation and then direct them to other facilities in the various resorts for their meeting requirements. The demand for business tourism is increasing and we’d like to develop that side of things, as it complements our core business. The sites where this works best are those that are easy to get to, like Le Grand-Bornand, and situated close to airports or TGV stations”.

This winter, CGH is opening four new residences. One in Alpe d’Huez (70 apartments, from two rooms for four people up to five rooms for ten people), one in Val Cenis (97 two or four-room apartments for eight people), one in Peisey-Vallandry (25 apartments of two to six rooms for 12 people, with part of this development due to open in spring 2012), and another in Tignes Val Claret (18 apartments from three rooms/six people up to four rooms). “They all, with the exception of Peisey and Tignes, offer a heated pool and spa centre,” explains CGH’s sales manager. “And guests in those two can use the facilities of our neighbouring properties. In a year’s time, by Christmas 2012, we’ll be opening another three residences in Châtel, Flaine and La Rosière”.
