Specialising in street shows and artistic events involving live performances that combine dance, stilt walking, theatre, music and circus skills, Mademoiselle Paillette enjoys an international reputation having performed more than 300 times in France and abroad over the last five years.
Set up by Isabelle Cahagne, the Lyon-based company has created about ten shows that are adapted to suit every budget and priced according to the number of actors involved.
“We incorporate a whole range of disciplines in our performances and I compose electronic music that is quite gentle, accessible, full of poetry and quite dream-like,” explains Isabelle Cahagne. “The music is a mixture of baroque and classical with some rock. We have electric guitar duets. Our performances are somewhere between circus, contemporary dance and acrobatic dance and we can adapt our programme to match the theme of each event”.
Mademoiselle Paillette has access to a venue in the Vieux Lyon district, which is where she creates and rehearses the shows and where she stores the hundreds of costumes.
The concept appeals to a growing number of companies both in France and abroad, even as far as China where the company performed at the official opening of a Vuitton store, as well as Belgium, Egypt, Spain, Israel, Italy and Luxembourg. Seminars and other corporate events represent about 60- 70% of its activity, with shows that can feature from just one performer up to 25, all of them able to perform on stilts ! “I’ve effectively done what I love doing, creating transient performances and inventing characters that live in fairytale worlds,” admits Isabelle Cahagne.
Her past successes include performances at the 2007 Foire de Lyon, the Rugby World Cup in the same year, a LVMH party in Paris in 2008, the Mondial de la Beauté also in 2008, at the 100th anniversary of L’Oréal in Vichy in 2009, at various events stages by Luc Petit in France and Italy as well as an Air France gala at Disneyland Paris.
The performance lasts about 1 ½ hours. Two performers plus a technician will cost 1750 € (ex VAT), 3250 € (ex VAT) for four performers and 4000 € (ex VAT) for five. She’s already working on a new performance for the autumn involving tall characters perched on their stilts…
